IN MEMORIAM…

Scumbumbo was a pillar…

…of the modding in this community, he had a wicked sense of humor, and an enormous amount of patience and skill for walking people through the enormously complex.

I remember my first main interaction with him was when I joined up on Fogity's discord, looking for help with a tool I was trying to make that would become the Auto STBL tool. I was lost with a strange crash bug and he attacked the problem like it was his own to solve, going back and forth with me, along with some input from Fogity and Turbodriver, into the early morning hours. That would prove to be the kind of person he was, as I knew him. Patient and ready to help those less knowledgeable, and with a sense of humor about it all mixed in. It's difficult to put into words the difference he made in this community and in my own life.

He leaves a Scumbumbo-sized hole behind and I'm going to miss the hell out of him.

The first thing that…

…comes to my mind when I think about Scumbumbo is how helpful he was. He would often swoop in and add his insights and he didn't hesitate to experiment when no-one else had the answer. When I was working on my python decompiler he created a script for checking how good the results where, it made everything much easier for me and it felt nice to be working together. That was something he was very good at: inspiring people to work together.

The second thing that comes to my mind is how fun he was. He often cracked jokes, usually a sarcastic remark (or more likely, several). An example of how he mixed modding with whimsy is the names of some of his popular mods "Don't ___ Where You Angry Poop" (which are very clear names as well).

Another example is a small mod he made, based on a discord discussion, that spawned a rooster statue every few seconds where the active sim was standing. He later showed a screenshot showing that the game indeed could manage several hundred roosters at the same time. I hope we all learn from him and show our compassion as well as not forgetting to have fun while we can. Thank you for your contribution to this community.

Scumbumbo was a…

…huge contributor to Sims 4 development and was a mentor, of sorts, to me as well. He was a great teacher and had more patience than I could ever claim to have when dealing with people asking technical questions about modding. His tutorials and mods were a starting point for my learning how to do script modding for the Sims 4. MCCC would not be here without his guidance! I always respected him and appreciated everything he did. Rest in peace, Scumbumbo!

…so many talented, inspiring and fantastic people, there are few that I respected more than Scumbumbo.

His coding and problemsolving skills were unparalleled, but furthermore he was altruistic to the bone, and willing to always lend a hand to anyone that needed help, and that with a dash of tongue in cheek sarcasm, and great sense of humor.

It is impossible to mod this game, and not have heard of him. He has certainly been around in the modding scene a lot longer than I have, but from the brief time I was lucky enough to talk to him, he really made a strong impact on me, so much so that I took the news of his passing way worse than I’d imagined.

Scumbumbo was a…

…cornerstone of the sims modding community. It’s no exaggeration to say his work influenced the development of almost every single popular mod. Whether it be through direct means such as him personally helping modders with difficult technical problems or indirect means via his many coding tutorials or his utility tools such as the tdesc browser. Scumbumbo was also a mentor to many of us. When I had a difficult coding problem or in need of moral guidance, Scumbumbo always made time for me. He was the modder I turned to for help when I felt there was nowhere else to go. When he passed on, he left in his wake a giant marmot sized hole in this community which will never be filled.

In his final months he expressed a hope to many of us in private. A hope that he’d find others to continue his work after he was gone. So, in this way, I hope this page will act as a both a testament to the great person that Scumbumbo was and for us to collectively keep his memory alive.

…Scumbumbo's Mods even before i started modding and i was always amazed what he was able to do with his Mods. As a modder i was even more amazed by how much he did for the Modding Community with his Tutorials & Scripts. All of these opened a lot of possibilities for modders. …one of the main reasons why The Sims 4 modding community is what it is today. I'm not a modder, but his mods and the ones he helped to create are the reason why the game is so much fun and easy to play in the first place, at least for me. While not a modder, doing this has given me insight as to what might be causing a particular issue, which allows me to do my best helping people whenever and wherever I am able.

Scumbumbo’s Mods…

…are the reason I'm still playing The Sims 4. Without his mods that fixed any annoyances (such as leftover parts after repairing something, the progress circle), I would have gone straight back to The Sims 3. His mods are some of the ones I've used the longest. I wish I got to say thank you when he was still here, because his work is truly fantastic.

…for everyone, no matter if modder, user, gamer or just somebody interested in his work. I only changed a few words with him before he passed away; I am a nobody in the modder scene, but he made me feel that modding is something even ME should be able to understand, and he impressed me deeply by creating a tutorial for me to help me with my questions. It’s Been a Year Now…

…and I still remember feeling hollow when I heard of Scumbumbo's passing; even though I'd never had the chance to talk to him, I saw his positive influence everywhere, in mods that he created or inspired, or whenever he posted in forums to help out others.

Now that I've started modding myself, it seems that every time I look up how to do something, there's one of his tutorials to help me get there. There was always a sense of humour and a desire to help people, and the spirit of that lives on in this site and the community as a whole.

I’m not…

…a modder, not really. I've hacked a few things together and was barely coming up with the nerve to dip into mod making in anger when I heard that he was gone. I've used his mods for years and I regret that I was never able to get to know him personally, let alone get the most out of his skill and generosity. While I Never…

…got to communicate with Scumbumbo personally I was always amazed by the creations and tools he would release to the community, always seeming eager to encourage and help others to realise what they were wanting to create. It is thanks to Scumbumbo's XML Injector and clear documentation that I was able to create a mod I had wanted in my game for quite some time.

I Am A Small Time Modder…

…and I just want to thank Scumbumbo for everything he has done for the community. Being a modder isn't as easy as you think (when EA keeps updating the game and breaking certain mods), and sometimes you feel like abandoning or giving up certain mods you don't want to deal with anymore. Scumbumbo always put the community and people first instead of his desire to create. He would answer questions, help others in need, and apparently had a great sense of humor that I wish I got to know. I especially like his autonomy adjuster that is used in MC command center to turn off what actions you don't want sims to perform autonomously. You will be missed.

I’ve been playing…

…The Sims franchise since TS1 and have extensively used gameplay mods since TS2. I've known for quite some time how impactful a good set of gameplay mods can be, and I've had the deepest appreciation for the countless hours modders have poured into making these games better.

Every game in this franchise has their set of legendary modders, and Scumbumbo was definitely one of those for TS4. I remember the first time I saw his name and iconic avatar when I started hunting for mods after finally buying the game two years after its release. "Scumbumbo? Interesting name," I thought. The Darker Progress Circle was one of the first mods I downloaded, before I ever even booted up the game for the first time. I could just tell that for a mod like that to get made, the creator really had an eye for detail, was a fierce problem solver, and had a passion for tying up the loose ends in this game in order to make it better.

After seeing that iconic name and avatar pop up over and over throughout the years, I realized how much of a fixture he was in the modding community. I learned that he paved the way for so many modders to come after him, myself included. He really was so brilliant, so curious, and so helpful. He will truly be missed, but his legacy will never be forgotten. I'm so thankful to Scumbumbo for helping to turn this game into a major source of joy for me and many, many others

He Opened the Doors…

…to modding for me, and although I didn't know him personally or even really spoke to him, his mods were the first I ever downloaded and I was always excited when a new mod or update would come out.

Scumbumbo opened a whole new world for me, a whole new way to play and have fun in the sims! And even though I'm not very good with technology, he inspired me to try to make my own mod, I had hoped to have shown it to him when it's finished, but that won't be possible anymore...

Just A Few Days Ago…

…I was wondering if Scumbumbo had moved on from modding, wondering and hoping that life was providing other fun challenges and that time was well spend doing great and important things and that it were good reasons that resulted in not seeing the name around anymore.

I had no idea of what happened until I learned about this site and the reason for it's existence.

Scumbumbo won't be forgotten, not for who he was and not for what he did for the Sims community; both for those who had the chance to interact with him and those who only ever used the mods he created or any of the foundations he helped build for others.

I never Spoke…

…with Scumbumbo but I remember seeing his mods since the beginning of the sims 4. He never ceased to amaze me. I would find something in my game that was annoying or needed a fix and sure enough I would find that he made a mod for it. Such as sims washing dishes in the bathroom. Seriously EA, could not fix it or wouldn't but he did. Will always remember him as the Sims won't be the same without him and this world has lost a great and talented guy.

I’ve Always Loved…

…The Sims franchise, but unfortunately The Sims 4 fell flat for me in a lot of ways. I turned away from The Sims 4 for quite a while until I discovered Scumbumbo's Mods for The Sims 4.

I never spoke to Scumbumbo, but his mods genuinely changed my love for The Sims entirely, and made me appreciate the game again. If it wasn't for Scumbumbo's mods I don't think I would play The Sims 4 the way that I do now.

I was Always Amazed…

…by how ingenious Scumbumbo and his mods were. Having followed his work since the Sims 3 days, I was endlessly impressed by everything that he made. I often wondered just what kind of skill and talent it took to create the things that he did. He made so many useful utilities to help other modders, and many other fun mods that not only enhanced gameplay but also were absolutely brilliant in terms of execution and ability. It always seemed to me that he would figure out how to manipulate aspects of the game long before anybody else had even scratched the surface.

I am saddened that I never really got the opportunity to get to know him or learn from him. I hope that he is at peace, and that his family is comforted by knowing how important he was to an entire community of gamers who will never let his legacy die.

…the Sims 4 way more than a game. He managed to help build a world to lose yourself in for hours upon end, tweaking it to mimic your own life as much or as little as you please. He made sure there was no such thing as boring. I'm forever grateful for him, and for his friends that keep his mods running, because they opened my eyes to much more than a game. He sparked the interest in technology that inspired me to study computer science, to make my own mods, and ultimately kept me interested in this game years after it came out. Scumbumbo, thank you. I Never Knew…

…how important Scumbumbo was to the Sims modding community until after he had passed, and I regret not getting to experience that part of his life when we were friends. I knew he was creative, and a computer genius, and had a sharp wit, but this was a part of his talent he'd kept separate from our weekly gaming group for reasons known only to him. I was a latecomer to the Sims mod scene, but I'm glad I stumbled upon his work, allowing me to witness an additional aspect of his ingenuity. …I started playing TS4 back when it came and within a month I'd started adding mods (my fave being the Pregnancy Mega Mod) and now I can't play without them. It's just a huge shock that such a large presence in the community is gone. I’ve modded The Sims for a long time and Scumbumbo was always part of of my gameplay in some way. He made a good game a great game and gave us all even more hours of joy in ways we wanted long before we knew we wanted them, finding ourselves soon unable to play without his mods. I never knew him but always smiled when I saw one of his posts… he had a great sense of humor. He will be missed, and there's a deep void in the modding community without him.

As Someone Who’s…

…only made a few traits in Mod Constructor, I hold nothing but the deepest respect for the modding community. If it weren't for you guys, willing to slave over your computers every day to fix EAxis' mistakes, this game wouldn't be fun for me. And to know that one of them - one who I may have never known, but seems like a wonderful person from what everyone else says - is gone, it hurts. Even for someone who's pretty sure they weren't even playing this game while he was still alive - he who directly and indirectly created so many mods I can't imagine living without - it shakes me to my core to know that he's dead.

The beauty of a line of work like his is that, even long after he is gone, his work will always succeed in what he wanted of it. He makes the game fun, even from beyond the grave. I hope he is at peace as he deserves. I hope that somehow, somewhere, he knows that he is missed.

…stick out to me when I first started downloading for my game. They have such witty names and the descriptions were funny and relatable, as if he was telling a story. He seemed like someone who wanted things to be easier for everyone around him and did his hardest when doing so. I wish I would have known him personally and gave him a proper thanks, but seeing how many lives he touched and affected is warming. It's a bittersweet feeling. He's resting easy and peacefully now, with his legacy alive through his influence within the modding community and the hearts of everyone, modder or not.

…from Simming for several months due to health issues and was shocked to return and find that Scumbumbo had passed away. May his family, friends and all who knew and loved him/his mods find blessings and peace.

I Still Remember…

…the first and only time I talked to him. I reached out to him because his mod wasn't working, only to realize that I didn't install it correctly. I thought he was going to be mad because I wasted his time- but he wasn't. He was kind and patient with me, he said that he's happy his mod is working and hopes that I'll enjoy playing with it. He also told me to reach out if I have any trouble, that he's happy to help.

That had a massive impact on me. I felt welcome. It gave me the courage to dive into the world of mods and discover a community filled with amazingly talented people and mods that breathed life into my game. I think this really shows his character - patient and kind, he was the kind of person that could make people feel happy and at ease with only a few words. And then there wasn't a word said on his genius - I could write another long comment about his amazing mods.

Scumbumbo; I'm sure at the time you had no idea what a massive impact our brief exchange had on me, but I've never forgotten it. You're the reason why I can enjoy the Sims (my therapy game) once more, and I couldn't possibly thank you enough for it. I wish I could've told you this personally. …about Scumbumbo passing away it really hurt. I didn't know him. However, I knew of him. From the modding community. How they spoke of him, from the way they spoke about him. His humor was a gem each time I needed to update his mods for my game. I wanted to make mods that were useful as he did. I wanted to be a modder, but I am not great at modding. Some people just aren't. Thanks to him I grew a passion for mods and an appreciation for the hard work modders put into the game. I did not start with anything else (other than cheats) until maybe a year ago. When I read that you died, I was devastated. It was like an icon had died. Your mods were the very first I used and as I got more into using custom content, I did research. I saw your picture everywhere. Not only with the mods, but in a large portion of the comments, interacting with people. I could see the great sense of humor in your mod titles. The fixes did not seem big, but they were a literal game changer. Rest in power.

…Scumbumbo's work will act as his legacy. I’ve been simming…

…since the first game and my brother showed me the wonders of downloadable content. It felt like we were hacking the game to make it how we wanted it to be and since then, I've bought every version. My brother no longer plays it since he claimed he grew out of it.

Without Scumbumbo mods, I wouldn't be able to fix up the game of how I wanted to play with that bothered me and what wasn't available. My most used mod by him for The SIms 4 is Teleport Any Sim since the routing for Sims was atrocious. The less headaches of playing the game and finding joy is what I think modders accomplish, and I had no idea he was a pillar in the community and how much knowledge he gave to others.

It’s Been Almost…

…six months since I hopped on the modding and CC scene, but I remember Scumbumbo's mods being literally the first things I came across and downloaded when I started putting mods in my game. These impactful, and game changing fixes and ideas are some of the only reasons I've been able to stick through the always problematic Sims 4. His work inspired me to really tap into my creative side while finally finding an impactful way to use my coding skills, but few will ever leave such a mark on an international community like Scumbumbo did.

How sad it is to reflect on some of the kind people I have come across briefly
through their creativity on net. People whom generously shared their work. The kind whom encouraged and inspired others to try for themselves, later to learn about a few of them whom the time expired for way to early. Like Scumbumbo.

The world is filled with ordinary people that stand out due to extraordinary kindness and the will to help others achieve same level as him in knowledge. Best way to remember him is to try to be as generous as he was. I met him briefly through a question about abbreviations used by modders not familiar to me as English is my second language. He responded kindly even for such a little request.

…a break from mods in my game during the pandemic. I honestly forget why I took a break, anyhow, I retained a list of my favorite modders and their mods.

Today I found out we all lost Scumbumbo, when he fell asleep in death. This wonderful modder that brought quirky fun little mods to our lives as well as mods that really help our games run less chaotically in all the wrong places. This person had helped us enjoy something we loved so much, and I appreciate that so much. I re-added some my fave mods from him.

Then I discover this amazing person I've never known has passed.
